Job Description
Entomica Insectarium is an insect-based science centre and natural history museum located inside the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Entomica displays a variety of live exotic insects, reptiles, amphibians and fish from around the world in beautiful living vivariums. Entomica has developed engaging education programs to teach the community about science and nature using its unique inventory of animals from all over the world for inspiration and teaching.
Tasks and Responsibilities:

Support many of our new and upcoming programs in the natural history-museum field.

Work directly with the Director of Operations and Insectarium Manager to plan and deliver new public tour programs and exhibits (in-house, outreach and travelling).

Assist with planning, designing, facilitating, delivering and coordinating the programs;

Liaise with program participants and partners, supporting meetings, planning logistics for program delivery, communications and acting as the secondary contact for summer students and volunteers.

Provide public tours and program delivery (education) to tourists, students (classes from primary to college and university level) and special community groups at our facility.

Learn and assist with insect husbandry and insect handling/demonstration.

Invoicing/payments related to programming.

Ensure CFIA regulations for facility compliance, permit applications, animal transfers, volunteer training, professional correspondence, exhibit design, afterschool, and weekend programs.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required

A post-secondary degree or diploma in a natural environmental, park/recreation or educational related program.

Strong computer skills, proficiency with social media platforms, graphic design and web-editing software.

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
-
Ability to work and perform effectively in a multi-tasking, fast-paced team environment.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Experience with program/event planning and delivery would be an asset.
-
French language comprehension would also be an asset.

Willingness to work evenings and weekends.

Are new entrants into the work force, are transitioning to a new career, or the unemployed or underemployed who are entering a new field.

Have not previously participated in a NOHFC-funded internship.

Are at least 18 years of age.

Reside in northern Ontario, and be legally entitled to work in Canada.
